Webb2 nov. 2024 · Layers of the atmosphere: troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere and thermosphere. UCAR/Randy Russell. Troposphere. The troposphere is the lowest layer of our atmosphere. Starting at ground level, it extends up to about 10 km (half dozen.two miles or near 33,000 feet) in a higher place sea level. WebbThe layer closest to the ground is called the troposphere. The layer above that is called the stratosphere. Above the stratosphere is the mesosphere, and above that is the thermosphere. At certain altitudes the pressure or temperature (or both!) change suddenly. Those altitudes are the boundaries or borders between layers.
